Kitchen Organizing Ideas

Organizing kitchens can be challenging, but when the kitchen is clean and organized, it makes spending time in there so much nicer.

They say “the kitchen is the heart of the home.” We all spend a decent amount of time in the kitchen, so a clean and organized kitchen is definitely important to me.

Today I’m sharing some of my favorite kitchen organizing tips.

Less is more here! Most of us have way too many items in the kitchen. On the counters, in the cabinets and drawers, in the pantry. I always suggest decluttering and getting rid of as many items as you possibly can. Get a bin or a basket and fill that up with items you want to donate.

Keeping very little on the counters and even on the front of the fridge makes your kitchen look and feel so much more clean and organized.

Create zones in the kitchen:

  • Cooking Zone: For pots & pans and cooking utensils. Typically close to the stove.

  • Everyday Zone: Plates, cups, silverware, linens (file fold or roll kitchen towels and dish cloths) Also in this area are small appliances, tupperware, etc.

  • Baking Zone: Baking & cooling sheets, baking utensils, baking glassware.

  • Storage + Cleaning Zone: Usually near and under the sink for cleaning supplies, garbage can, grocery bags, ziplock bags, foil & paper products.

Try to stack pots and pans and store your cookie sheets, cooling racks, cutting boards & lids on their side.

If you have the opportunity, add a built in spice cabinet, if not risers in a cabinet work well for spices.

And of course the fridge and pantry are both part of the kitchen.

  • Pair similar items together in drawers and cabinets

  • Add risers or move shelves in cabinets to utilize the space most efficient

  • Label your bins and baskets
